The advanced i-ACTIVSENSE safety suite was brilliant on last year’s Mazda offerings. The only thing we didn’t like was that it wasn’t available on all trim levels. Mazda seemed to agree. However, they didn’t simply make the i-ACTIVSENSE package available on all trim levels, they made it standard on every 2020 Mazda vehicle. Here’s some of what the package includes:

• Rear Vehicle Monitoring System
• Lane Departure Warning System
• Forward Obstruction Warning
• Smart City Brake Support
• Acceleration Control for Automatic Transmissions

These features are present in addition to the stability and traction control, brake assist, and other industry standard features offered on the 2020 Mazda3.

More-than-Dynamic AWD

Making its return is the i-ACTIV AWD drivetrain. The system monitors the typical avenues, like wheel slippage, stability control, and transmission. It also monitors things like wiper usage, outside temperature, and steering and braking inputs. Why does it do this? Unlike many dynamic AWD powertrains, i-ACTIV AWD seeks to distribute power preemptively. That is, the system is both a predictive and reactive one, not just reactive. Your car turning on its AWD drive after you’ve lost traction isn’t quite as helpful as never losing traction in the first place.
