When it comes to the subcompact crossover segment, features matter. Since they’re usually much smaller that their midsize counterparts, they rely heavily on which features they bring to the table. That’s what we’ll be taking a look at today.

The 2020 Mazda CX-3 only comes in one trim: Sport. However, the 2020 CX-3 still has many of the features that were only available previous model years' upper trims. Standard features include a 7-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, voice recognition, a USB port, and automatic climate control. It comes with a very comprehensive safety suite too. Forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control are standard. Lane departure warning, adaptive headlights, automatic high beams, automatic rain-sensing wipers, a heads-up display, and a rearview camera are also standard.
The Jeep Renegade Sport that retails for $2,000+ more than the CX-3? It’s not even a comparison. The Renegade Sport has a rearview camera, a 5-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, and a USB port standard. Yep, that’s it. It has almost no standard safety features and a subpar infotainment suite.
The 2020 Mazda CX-3 is powered by the same 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G four-cylinder engine found in the legendary Mazda Miata. And just like with the Miata, the 2020 CX-3 gets excellent gas mileage. FWD models get 29/34/31 mpg, while AWD models are rated at 27/32/29 mpg. The Jeep Renegade doesn’t even come close to those numbers. Its FWD models only get 22/30/25 mpg, while the 4WD models get a woeful 21/29/24 mpg. For a subcompact crossover with a four-cylinder engine, those numbers are flat-out unacceptable.
