For many, Memorial Day signifies the beginning of summer and what better way to kick off the warm weather and the sunshine then a 3-day weekend? True, some of us don’t get a three day weekend but that doesn’t stop the plethora of events and activities going on throughout Memorial Day weekend. Check out these Memorial Day 2017 events going in the Milwaukee area.
The 152nd annual Milwaukee Memorial Day parade is May 29th at 2 pm. The parade starts at 4th Wisconsin Ave and goes east to the War Memorial Center. The wreath laying ceremony immediately follows the end of the parade and is held at the reflecting pool on Fitch Plaza. Since 1865, the Memorial Day parade has been a tradition in the community. Burlington is having their annual Chocolatefest Thursday, May 25th to Monday, May 29th. There will be fireworks Friday night at 9 pm as well. There are a couple extra events associated with this festival including a city bike ride and 5k run/walk. Those interested can find more information on the site. This is a great family-friendly event, especially for chocolate lovers!
The Gathering of Warbirds is coming to Waukesha Saturday, May 27th at the Waukesha County Airport from 10 am to 4 pm. This event features historic and modern military aircraft, aircraft tours and rides and educational activities for all ages. See the website for more information and how to book rides.
Monday, May 29th is the Waukesha Memorial Day parade from 9 am to noon. At 9 am, a river service takes place at the Lee Sherman Dreyfus State Office building followed by the parade at 10 am. A performance by the Waukesha Civic Band will take place at 11 am at Cutler Park.
Art in the Park is hosted at Henry Miller Park in Oak Creek. The event is Saturday, May 17th from 9 am to 3 pm, the event has free admission. Artists of all ages can celebrate the love of art while enjoying the beautiful park. There will be live music as well.
