MX-5 Miata Miata Restoration Parts Program Expands to US
The Mazda MX-5 Miata holds the World Record for best-selling two-seat sports car. Realizing this opportunity, Mazda designed a program wherein Miata owners could buy legacy parts stretching the whole 30 years of production. So, back in 2017, Mazda started the MX-5 Miata Restoration Parts Program. Sounds great, right? There was only one teeny, tiny little catch. The program was only available in Japan. Until recently.
Now that the Restoration Parts Program is available stateside, are MAzda Miata parts cheap?
On Oct. 28, 2019, Mazda USA announced that the Restoration Parts Program is available in the States! There are over 1,100 new and legacy parts covering 30 years of Miata production. Mazda consulted specialty shops and Miata drivers’ clubs to figure which parts are most requested and needed by Miata owners. All restoration parts are re-manufactured in Japan with contemporary materials and refined production methods. However, Mazda is taking great care that all parts retain the look and feel of the model they came from. This all means that Mazda-licensed parts are now going to be much more affordable.
The Complete Parts List
Unfortunately, we can’t go through the complete list here; it’s way too long. But, the press release gives a good overview, stating that things like a “newly developed soft top that uses the same rear screen material from the original version,” and “aluminum wheels designed like the original, but … lighter and with a more protected finish” are available. Similarly, parts that are “essential in the maintenance of almost any classic Miata,” such as “the roller for side windows to the brake piston caliper” are also available. Needless to say, we’re excited by the possibilities of improving our classic Miata models with modernized, genuine Mazda parts.
