Mazda Announces 2021 Mazda3 Turbo Model, Reveals a Few Specs
For a long time, people have been asking for a Mazda3 hot hatch. Hot hatches are incredibly popular, as well as being affordable performance cars. However, Mazda has stuck with naturally-aspirated engines for the Mazda3 for a few years. That’s why we were so surprised when Mazda announced that…
The 2021 Mazda3 will have a turbocharged engine.
New 2021 Mazda3 Turbocharged Engine
People have been asking for it and Mazda delivered: the 2021 Mazda3 2.5 Turbo (2.5T) will be “coming late 2020,” according to the official Mazda page. The Mazda3 2.5T will have 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque. Those numbers are the same ones on the 2020 CX-5 and 2020 CX-9 turbocharged 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G engine (when using 93 octane fuel). It’s safe to assume that the 2021 Mazda3 2.5T will feature an updated version of that engine. The 2.5T will be available as a hatchback and sedan. It’s unclear whether the (currently) Europe-only 2021 Mazda3 with the diesel-like Skyactiv-X engine will be added to the US lineup as well.
Other Revealed Mazda3 Features
The Mazda3 2.5T will also come standard with i-ACTIV AWD, currently only found on the 2020 Mazda3 Premium. The traffic jam assist feature has been added to the radar adaptive cruise control system, proving steering input at sub-40 MPH speeds. A 360° view monitor with front and rear parking sensors is also available. Other revealed features are cosmetic: a black rear spoiler, 18-inch black allow wheels, black power side mirrors, and a black front air dam. A small “TURBO” badge will also be featured on the trunk and engine cover.
