Smartphone Connectivity on the 2018 Mazda3
The 2018 Mazda3 was a great ending note to the previous Mazda3 generation, preceding the full redesign kicked off by the 2019 model. If you’re shopping for a pre-owned Mazda3, the 2018 model offers a ton of eye-catching value and capability. But one lingering question remains: does the 2018 Mazda3 have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto?
The 2018 Mazda3 did not come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability. However, a program kicked off by Mazda in the fall of 2018 allows older Mazda vehicles to be retrofitted with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This means that some 2018 Mazda3 models can currently be found with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto included, and others can be retrofitted with it at your local Mazda dealer.
Here at Hall Mazda, we offer an inventory of new 2018 Mazda3 models already fitted with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality. This is a great way to experience this cutting-edge technology at a value.
The infotainment upgrade that brings Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility to previous-year Mazda models also includes the latest version of the Mazda Connect infotainment system and upgrades the vehicle’s USB ports to more powerful, faster-charging 2.1-amp units.
Mazda Apple CarPlay/Android Auto Retrofit Program
The program by Mazda to retroactively integrate Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality, along with other infotainment upgrades, can be applied to Mazda vehicles from the 2014 model year onward. Not all trims are compatible, however; the vehicles must have already been equipped with the Mazda Connect infotainment system.
Mazda was admittedly a bit slow in integrating branded smartphone tech into its vehicles. The first Mazda to finally get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration was the 2018 Mazda6. After that, it was included in the 2019 Mazda CX-5 and 2019 Mazda CX-9. Since then, many more Mazda vehicles have been released with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto functionality included.
